September 14 Presentation: Mega Map Mashups with PHP
—————————————————————-
Jim O'Leary is a PHP and Python instructor and avid GIS enthusiast.
For this month's meeting Jim will be sharing on the following topics:
- MapGuide Open Source, an application built in PHP and JavaScript
- Web mapping servers (WMS) and how to access them
- Keyhole Markup Language (KML), Google's XML language for manipulating Google Earth
- Using PHP to get WMS layers, translate them to KML, and display the layers in Google Earth
If you want the buzz of seeing your own layers come up in Google Earth, be sure to attend this meeting.
This presentation will include information about MapGuide Open Source, a mapping application that AutoDesk has release to the Open Source community and is implemented in PHP and JavaScript. You can learn about MapGuide at [https://mapguide.osgeo.org](https://mapguide.osgeo.org)
**Where:** Vancouver Community College, Downtown Campus, room 237, 250 West Pender Street, Vancouver.
** How to find room 237 at VCC Downtown Campus:
- Find the library, which is close to the Dunsmuir and Hamilton entrance. Then proceed to the hallway towards the washrooms that are to the left of the library as you are looking at it. Turn right and go up the hallway, and you will find room 237.
**When:** Meeting time is 6:30 PM on September 14.
**Parking:** There is ample parking on the street in the vicinity on Pender, Cambie, and Dunsmuir streets.
**Food:** If you get there early, dont forget the excellent student cafeteria upstairs where you can dine on four star cuisine for half star prices. Same deal with the bakery. There is also a great cafe in the main area that brews a mean bean.
