The Lab with Leo Laporte: Draft Pitches on Hiveminder and Open Source

A few days ago I heard back from Ryan Yewell at the Lab with Leo Laporte about my segment pitches for the show.

It turns out that they are interested in the pitches on Hiveminder and Open Source and want to know the 3 to 4 main points I'll cover in each segment and the resources (pictures, programs, videos, website, etc.) details. If they like these things, then we'll move ahead.

For the "Getting Organized with Hiveminder", they'd like a slightly higher-level approach that focuses on getting organized. I'm likely to cover these major points:

  • Background: briefly cover what problems the segment solves (primarily managing, reporting on and completing many tasks from many different sources in an chaotic environment full of distractions) and how I use what we'll be discussing.
  • Simple Habits: A few simple habits (mostly borrowed from GTD) to stay on top of it all.
  • Hiveminder and how it thrives in highly networked businesses and chaotic environments
  • Reasonable expectations on managing your tasks and smart strategies for crawling back onto the wagon after you've fallen off and it has run over you.

… and use these resources:

  • Mac OS X
  • Mail.app
  • hiveminder.com
  • Adium (an Open Source instant messenger client)
  • Pen and Paper

For the "What is Open Source" segment, I'm likely to cover …

Actually, I'll finish writing this up later - now I need to go cook food for BarCamp.

I'll test both of these segments out with participants at BarCamp Vancouver to see how they fly (or don't :)
