The Hunter/Gatherer Meal
Looking to save time and eat a healthier diet?
Recipes don’t get much simpler than this:
A healthy pinch of nuts and/or seeds
– perhaps avoid salted, roasted, …
A handful of greens
– look for nice pre-washed organic mixes
– convenient and healthy
– buy in bulk to save money
A small handful of cut-up fruit. Some of my favorites are:
– apples
– citrus
– peach
– mango
A small handful of veggies
– cubed tomato
– alfalfa sprouts
– diced celery
– …
A moderate handful of cooked protein:
– steamed fresh soy beans (Edamame – shell before using)
– beef, bison, chicken, lamb, … (I buy organic and free-range when possible)
– various tofu-based products
Optional dressing of a teaspoon of olive/flaxseed/canola/sesame/… and a tablespoon of lemon juice/vinegar/…
Cook or heat the protein and toss together with the other ingredients.
Modify the ingredients as you see fit. I try to stick to ethical products that are environmentally friendly – for some odd reason, I prefer eating animals who live in humane conditions and are not full of weirdo feeds, growth hormones and antibiotics.
