SoCal Linux Expo
Woke up at 6 to get ready for the SoCal Linux Expo. Joe from eLinux came along as well and was kind enough to pick me up at the hotel. We arrived in quite early for the expo and spent some time chatting with other attendees. When the show opened, we went down to the MySQL table in the exhibitor's hall and watched the other exhibitors set up. Nothing too exciting here, except for the fuses blowing every time IBM plugged in one of its bigger boxes.
The event was a good chance to talk with a bunch of cool people - from some very experienced database people to some people new to the development side of the web.
I took a bit of time to review my talk, however, I still hoped to have a printout of my notes before I presented - unfortunately, the printer for the event had been forgotten at someone's home, so I had to copy my notes to my Zaurus. I suspect that I would have been better to have not used the notes on the Zaurus - too hard to read and too easy to lose your place in the noted.
For the morbidly curious, the talk is here: http://stream.lpbn.org:8080/ramgen/scale2002-zakgreant.rm
After the talk, some friends of one of the organizers whisked me off the airport for my flight to Frankfurt for the PHP International Conference. Thankfully, traffic was not too bad and I managed to miss a huge lineup for the flight by a few minutes.
