Shell-like aliases for Hiveminder
If you are nerdy (and, if you are reading this blog, that is probably the case), then you probably like the alias built-in for *nix shells.
If you also use Hiveminder, then you should be pretty happy, as Shawn over at Best Practical has added alias-like support to Hiveminder's IM interface.
The syntax is simple.
Create an alias like so:
alias oscon=create [OSCON event portland oregon 2008 USA][group:foo]
… and then use the alias like so:
oscon [presentation] Think about presentations for OSCON 08
The Hiveminder IM client should respond with something like this:
Created 1 task:
#7TQC: Think about presentations for OSCON 08 [group: Foo] [2008 OSCON USA event portland oregon presentation]
Note that I was able to add another tag to the task even though the alias already defined tags.
Also note that aliases only seem to expand when they are the first word of a command. This probably isn't a bad thing.
You can find out more by sending the help alias command to the Hiveminder IM interface.
