Polymorph: Zak Greant's Blog

Seven Things

Last week, while I was mostly networkless, Laura Thomson, Marco Tabini, Magical Tux and Sebastian Nohn tagged me with the "Seven things you probably don't know about me" meme that has been going around the Mozilla and PHP blogging community.

I just wrote a post that had much of what I would have put in a post like this, so I guess that I'll have to rummage in my mental dustbins for other facts. How about we bend the meme a bit and make it, "Seven things that you probably don't know about me that I didn't know about myself until the last year or so."

  1. I have both Canadian and US citizenship. I didn't find out that I still had US citizenship until I was heading down to OSCON last year. I now have lots of paperwork to fill in.
  2. I discovered that my mild irrational fear of sharks is greater in fresh water than in salt water. I suppose that I should be comforted that my irrational fears are really irrational.
  3. Much to my surprise, I like bourbon on the rocks (and whiskey sours.)
  4. Pâté de foie gras is my enemy. My vomit-inducing, heart-burn bringing enemy. Even now I can feel its ropey grey-brown tentacles slithering down and then back up my throat.
  5. I can still be just as insecure at thirty-five as I was at fourteen – however, I now have better skills to deal with it (and fewer zits.)
  6. I do better work (and feel better) on the days that I walk or jog in the morning.
  7. No matter how big the dessert buffet, I will still find room on my plate for coloured marshmallows.

With the bent meme of "Seven things I learned about myself this year", I'm tagging people who I think have had an interesting (and often challenging) year:

  1. My mother Deborah Cavel-Greant, who keeps exploring life (and sends back wonderful field notes about what she finds.)
  2. My thoughtful Mozilla colleague Gervase Markham.
  3. My friend Lucian Savluc, who has run a conference, spent three months in Romania, started a new job and welcomed a new baby into the family within the last year.
  4. My wife Mandy Moore, who recently survived the experience of authoring a book.
  5. My lovely friend Rachael Ashe, who is getting a running start on 2009.
  6. My friend Travis Smith, who takes the scenic route through life.
  7. My friend Vivien Anayian, whose home country was invaded by Russia last year.

I'd like to tag my friend Karim Ratib (who has recently moved to Vancouver from Cairo) but I don't think that he has a private blog.

Nothing personal as your are not the only one doing it but this '7 tags' crap is just getting out of hand - I visit PHP Planet everyday and it's just choke full of blog entries about '7 things' this and '7 things' that…

Come on people, surely you've got something better to blog about than this tripe huh? Who the hell was responsible for kicking this thing off anyway? I'd like to give the -beep- a right thumping :(

Enough is enough okay? Apart from that, great blog when you do have something interesting to say ;)

Each to their own. Why don't you start your own anti-meme meme? ;)

Hey Zak, thank you for tagging me but I think I'm a bit meme'd out after taking part in a few of them over the last few months. Sorry.

[...] in the PHP and Open Source community. If my friend Zak Greant hadn't changed the rules before tagging me I could've gotten away by referring him to my old response to a similar meme: 8 Bits You Now [...]
