Random Thought: MySQL is the Perl of RDBMS

While chatting with a few SVN hackers at OSCON, it occured to me that MySQL is the Perl of RDBMS. Discuss among yourselves.

The LAMP components are all quite similar in thier respective program fields. What I'm wondering is how did this come about from talking with some subversion hackers? Do they feel like they should be the Perl of revision control systems but aren't yet? Subversion is a wonderful progression from CVS, and I'll not be going back as long as I'm making up the terms.
