OpenMind 2007: Public Sector Benefits from Open Source

Carlos Montero-Luque takes the stage again, presenting a simple overview of how some governments are using Open Source and Open Standards, and the results that they are getting.

I fear that in rushing to get my notes from the other presentation online, I've missed part of this presentation.

As with Tommi, Carlos' slides contain the meat of the session. This isn't a bad thing for people reading this post.

Heh. I should note that he mentioned the importance of Mozilla Firefox to the open desktop.

Carlos is starting to move into real case studies, starting with the Finnish Ministry of Defense and their need to migrate to a new platform. He notes that they MoD needed to use Lotus Notes with their new platform.

He moves quickly on to the Belgian Ministry of Justice, talking about their switch to Linux and their need to not need to get new hardware to complete the migration. This let them save money both on hardware and software. They also needed to improve their security.

At this point, I'm going to get catch Monty's presentation. Catch Carlos' slides to get the goods.
