Northern Voice: Blogging, Passions and Personal Expression

Hurray! Mandy is at Northern Voice participating in her first conference panel on personal expression and passion in blogging.

I don't remember the name of the first panelist, but he is awesome. Notable quotes on topics like how he discovered the Internet: "So I was in Guam. It was 1995 and Jerry Garcia died." On recreational hobbies: "So I was wandering around with a small [device] documenting going out to buy weed." Personally, I didn't think that anyone had to buy weeds - they grow all over the place, even in the city. … more when the first panelist stops talking … :)

The first guy does a great job of conveying how to just get out and start publishing. Of course, his presentation implies that a certain kind of personality is helpful in just getting out there. :)

Andre (the next panelist) from doglotion.com starts up and he just can't be as cool as the first guy, but he is still fun. He focuses first on why they started up the site (just for fun) and how it has turned into a mix of community glue and lifestyle enabler.

Andre also talks about his friend Jim, who died while skiing. After Jim died, Andre posted a set of photos and stories about Jim on the site, which helped Jim's family come to terms with Jim's death.

Aha! The first panelist is Dave Olson from UncleWeed.net.

Hurray! Mandy is up and she is focusing on how blogging enables individual relations, expertise exchange and peer communities.

Mandy at Northern Voice.

Mandy is leaving enough space in the presentation for interaction with the other people. Lots of good discussion. Sweet. :)

Argh. I missed a good part of Rachael's participation while I was messing around with getting a photo of Mandy online. Someone else should have blogged it. :)
