MoFo Weekly Report 2007-11-02

Most of this week focused on events and task triage. I was holed up in a small, comfortable hotel in Slovenia with good Net access. This, combined with a chest cold, kept me nicely focused on doing lots of small tasks.

Events

  • Missed our bi-weekly MoCo/MoFo events triage call - the call was a bit late and, being sick, I had to sleep. However, the call had to be 1/2 hour long and they had a lot of work to do on FOSS.in - so I didn't feel too bad for missing.
    • I'll catch up with Mary next week so that we don't get out of sync.
  • Helped Alix and Chris Hoffman build some connections in Mexico for Chris Hoffman's participation in the 6th Annual GNU & Linux Festival in Puerto Vallarta.
  • eLiberatica 2008 - a Romanian Free Software and Open Source conference
    • I'll provide a keynote on behalf of the Foundation.
    • The Foundation will cover my travel expenses for the event.
    • Need to plan what message we want to share with Romanians, as well as what we hope to lear from Romanian.
    • Note: I'm part of the chair for this event.
  • F2C: Freedom to Connect
    • We've been invited to participate (and sponsor) by the conference organizer.
    • I'll work on this with Mary, Frank and others to try to determine what our participation can and should be.
    • Need to review materials and make a strawman recommendation.
  • Intl. PHP Conference 2008
    • Started rewriting my keynote for IPC - including an explicit focus on the Mozilla Manifesto
  • OpenNordic Open Source Business Conference
    • Received a direct invitation to attend through my work on the InnoCenter project.
    • I can't find a public page for the event?!? I do have the schedule, which has a lot of Nordic electronic movers and shakers (like Mikko Puhakka and Heidi Grande Røys) attending.

Task Triage

  • Cleaned up a bunch of small tasks.
  • Gave up on my overdue reports for OSCON and FrOSCon. I want to make sure that I don't get behind on my current tasks.
  • Need to make public feeds of my MoFo tasks that I manage in Hiveminder.

Misc.

  • Visited Brian King of BRIKS and MozDev at his home in Slovenia. Had a good chance to talk about MozDev, the electronic frontier in Slovenia and Mozilla in general. Also had a chance to see some of beautiful Slovenia.
  • Met Jaka Železnikar, developer of the Črke · Letters, Disorganizer and Changer / Spreminjevalec FireFox art extensions.
  • Meeting Brian, Jaka, Marko, Mitja and Rok (part of the Housing.si team) was great.
  • Finally had some Mozilla Foundation business cards printed - still waiting for them to arrive.
  • Tried to get more info on the state of the electronic frontier in Slovenia. Need to write a brief report. The report won't be much, but it should provide a strawman for Slovenians to correct. :)
  • I love my job. :)

Next Week

  • Attend Intl. PHP Conference
    • Write plan for what we hope to do/learn from the event
  • Write brief electronic frontier Slovenia report
  • Wiki gardening on the MoFo wiki
  • Given keynote at the Intl. PHP Conference
  • Plan attendance at upcoming events
  • Work on MoFo events and outreach strategy
  • Work on plans for specific events

I don't think we talked enough about the tech scene here, or at least I was not forthcoming with information. I think I was probably distracted a little, but also because I am not in Ljubljana I feel a bit outside of the scene. But we did talk about Cyberpipe and 'spletne urice', but there is a lot more going on. If you need more information, just let me know.

[...] Caught up with Mary Colvig (after missing our bi-weekly events call) to discuss upcoming events and our events strategy for 2008. We focused on the events listed in last week's report. [...]
