Mozilla Foundation Report for 2008 Week 5

This is my Mozilla Foundation report for February 3rd to February 9th, 2008. See the weblogs of David Boswell, Frank Hecker and Gerv Markham for additional reports.

Much of this week was focused on participating in SCALE 6x, as well as traveling to and from the event, and preparing for other events.

Projects for the Week

Events

  • SCALE 6x: Prepared for, attended, spoke at and (partially) reported on SCALE 6x. All of my reports are tagged with SCALE 6x (and I still need to edit or write several reports.) Briefly summarized, it was an excellent event made better by planning ahead. I managed to cut our costs and my carbon footprint significantly for the event. More on this in future reports. Unfortunately, after sleeping badly, I didn't feel at all well for my Age of Literate Machines session. On the positive side, while I felt that I had botched it, the session let to over 6 hours of interesting discussions about the session with attendees for a few days afterwards – which was extremely useful.
  • FOSDEM 2008 »">FOSDEM 2008: I started getting ready for my FOSDEM 2008 attendance by discussing the outline of my Electronic Ombuds talk with innocent passers by.
  • OSCON 2008: Worked on Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation attendance of OSCON with Mary Colvig from the corporation.

Grants (and related):

  • I identified a set of potential grant recipients and grant development areas at SCALE. As always, I'll be metaphorically tight-lipped about the grants unless they move ahead.
