Leaving G

The sun lights overcast skies from above, casting faint fingers of pearl and gold onto the low mist wending its way through the half-harvested fields and lush meadows of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Rows of corn, dressed in the pale yellows and browns of late season, stand next to fields empty but for broken cornstalks and foraging pigeons. Beyond the fields and into the meadows, all is quiet.

Pacing in the slight chill, chatting about travel plans, gossiping about work and speculating on the worst contracts we have ever had, we wait for our cab.

Moments later, jammed shoulder to shoulder, we wind through the outskirts of G
