Good Books on Free Software, Open Source and Intellectual Monopoly Law
This list has been created primarily to help one individual learn more about the laws and agreements which affect their business. As such, it is quite limited in scope. I plan to expand the list as time permits.
Free Software/Open Source-specific Resources:
- A Legal Issues Primer for Open Source and Free Software Project (prepared by the Software Freedom Law Center team)
- Open Source Licensing: Software Freedom and Intellectual Property Law Lawrence Rosen: Another good resource, with a more permissive view of FLOSS licensing.
- Understanding Open Source and Free Software Licensing – Andrew M. St. Laurent: An excellent book on the topic. Additionally, all of the content for this book is freely available online at the preceding link.
General Intellectual Monopoly Law Resources:
- A Primer On Intellectual Property Licensing – Heather J. Meeker: True to the title, it is an excellent primer on the topic. It could stand an update and is surprisingly unclear on a few points of Free Software and Open Source licensing.
- Technology Transfers and Licensing – John T. Ramsay: A useful resource for Canadians engaging in technology transfers and licensing (especially within the US market.)
