Escape from LA
I admit that I was glad to be leaving LA - I am still not comfortable in the city. Flying away from the area at night was interesting - from the air the region looks like some sort of deep-sea-scape.
After a 10 hour flight, I arrived in Frankfurt. I really have to start being able to sleep on airplanes - these trips long trips are brutal. I always end up being absolutely fried when I reach my destination. At least I have a couple days to catch up on sleep and adjust before I have to talk.
I ended uo getting to the PHP International Conference hotel at about 15:00. I sleepily answered a few questions for Georg at the end of his session and talked a bit about replication.
A few people had various questions after this, so I hung around to chat with them. It was kind of funny - each time that I made a technical suggestion, they would say that Georg had already covered that in his talk. :)
Ended up in the hotel bar nursing mineral water and chatting with Hans-Juergen Schoenig - one of the PostgreSQL guys.
Later in the evening, the conference organizers threw a dinner for the speakers - I don't really remember much but the food I ordered - some lovely skillet full of greasy, crispy potates with complementary meat with a side of hollandaise sauce.
Off to bed now.
