350 Free Linux Computers for Northern California Schools
Last month I blogged several times about the then upcoming Alameda County Computer Resource Center and Untangle "Installfest for Schools" event.
With a good deal of support from the local free software and open source community, the event seems to have come off beautifully - working together, volunteers managed to assemble 350 working computers for schools in Northern California.
Many thanks to Paul Kim, Mary Colvig, Melissa Shapiro and the rest of the Mozilla team for pulling together to support the event. We provided pizza and Mozilla goodies for all the volunteers, and those of us who could helped out at the installfest.
Kudos to Andrew Fife and the other organizers for running the event (and encouraging Mozilla to get involved.)
For more views on the event, check out the reports on ComputerWorld, LinuxWorld and LWN.net.
