2007 MySQL Users Conference
I wonder how many people will attend a session at a tech conference where the start of the description reads as follows:
Hey You! Yes, You! Manager, marketeer, sales professional: are you tired of 98lb weaklings kicking silicon in your face?
I am thinking this way because my friends at MySQL AB are putting on another MySQL User Conference - this time from April 23 - 26 in Santa Clara, California.
The Call for Participation went live a few days ago and, as always, I am proposing a session. I don't really need to go, but I definitely have a soft spot for the event, as I chaired the first two MySQL UCs. Also, I had a good deal of fun working on the MySQL Phrasebook and can put some of that material (and material that wasn't published) to good use at conferences.
The session I proposed was something like this (amusingly enough, I relied on O'Reilly's (the conference organizer) web form to send me a response including my proposal, but the email is still hovering in the vapour):
MySQL Sandalcamp: A no-stress primer for MySQL
Hey You! Yes, You! Manager, marketeer, sales professional: are you tired of 98lb weaklings kicking silicon in your face?
Sick of hearing, "It was just a one-liner in SQL?"
Take my no-risk, low-stress introduction to MySQL and stand up 'em. In just 45 minutes, you'll be able to:
- build databases with your bare hands
- make MySQL tables do your bidding with just your fingers
- create users from sheer force of will
- eat outdated tables for lunch
Act now! Be a real nerd!
I hope that it will be a good session… at least I know that people liked the content of the MySQL Phrasebook:
- ex-MySQLer Mike Hillyer's Review
- Zend DevZone's Review
- Paul Reinheimer's Review
- Various Amazon Reviews (right now, just copies of Mike and Paul's reviews)
