PHP International Con Day 3

Werner arrived today - on crutches, but seeming better than I had feared after his fall from the train platform. We had a good chat about Free/Open Software and business and ethics and everything else… :)

I gave my first talk of the conference - another session on Free and Open Source Software licensing, community and [...]

PHP International Con Day 2

Slept in, caught up on some of my email, worked on my talks, yawned a lot. :)

Spent some time chatting with Sascha and Thies. Thies has dropped more weight from the last time that I saw him - another year and he will look like Stig. :)

Attended the keynote and was surprised to see a [...]

Frankfurt: PHP I11L Con

Software and Support Verlag are hosting another PHP International Conference. Last year's conference was excellent - this year should be at least as good. I have a couple of sessions - one on Free/Open Source Software community, use and licensing issues and another on the cool new features of MySQL (Ok, so the features [...]

Escape from LA

I admit that I was glad to be leaving LA - I am still not comfortable in the city. Flying away from the area at night was interesting - from the air the region looks like some sort of deep-sea-scape.

After a 10 hour flight, I arrived in Frankfurt. I really have to start being able [...]

SoCal Linux Expo

Woke up at 6 to get ready for the SoCal Linux Expo. Joe from eLinux came along as well and was kind enough to pick me up at the hotel. We arrived in quite early for the expo and spent some time chatting with other attendees. When the show opened, we went down [...]

Cough, hack

I seem to have acquired some sort of cold during this trip. I have to talk to my OS vendor about the packaging system - there is no good reason that Cold v20.1.2.9 alpha should be a required dependency for TripToLA v0.1.

This is the way it goes and goes

sitting around in the hotel room, polishing my presentation for the SoCal Linux Expo and listening the ecstatic melancholic fuzz of Juno/This Is The Way It Goes And Goes

I probably wore grooves in my harddrive playing this album over Midsummer in Helskinki.

Home, home, home…

This trip has been different than the rest - I have never spent so long of a time in California and never before in L.A. and everything here feels subtly different. The city is so strange - miles of crouched low buildings, desolate freeways, broad streets that whisper "dusk" from deep in the backs their [...]

Off to catch lunch with Cory Simon from LILAX.
